I never would have made it. One moment I was swimming, the next I was trapped. I struggled to escape and the more I struggled the harder it was to move. It began to pull me down like a boulder strapped to my shell. My struggles were beginning to feel futile and I was getting tired…I began to sink. Just when my vision started to fade I felt a tugging, and I was hauled from the water. I was rescued! These men spoke of ghost nets and how lucky I was to have been seen. They cut me free and placed me back into the water. They were heroes! I was saved but damaged; alive but not safe because now I know I must fear the ghosts out there and my life will never be the same.
